FAQs

Q: Where do I find my child's Swim Number?

A: Prior to the first meet, we will publish a roster with each swimmer and their number.

Q: Is it too late to register?

A: No, it is not too late! Swimmers can be registered at anytime during the season.

Please visit the Registration Page for more information.

Q: How are the swimmers separated?

A: Boys race against boys, girls race against girls. The age groups are:
6 and under, 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14, 15-18.

Q: Who can race on the Hurricanes?

A: Any child 18 years old or younger by June 1 and is a resident of Highcroft is eligible.

Q: How do I let the coaches know whether I will be attending a meet or not

A: Prior to a meet you will receive an email to RSVP through the team Swimtopia website. If you discover on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday that you can not go, email the coach. If you discover on the day of the meet (Tuesday) that you can not go, notify the Coach and the Chair at [email protected].

Q: Do you offer swim lessons?

A: We do not. However, our coaches may offer private swim lessons. You can talk to them at the pool or get their email information on our Coaches Page. There are also many spring clinics offered by various year round swim organizations such as Marlins of Raleigh, RSA, YMCA, etc.

Q: Do you have a swim test?

A: We have a minimum swim requirement to ensure the safety of all of our swimmers. Swimmers must be able to swim 25 yards (the full length of the pool) unassisted to participate on the swim team.

If you have registered a child and he/she does not pass the safety screening and is unable to participate on the team, you will receive a full refund of your registration fees.

Q: Do you still practice if it is raining?

A: Yes. We only stop if it thunders. If it thunders we wait 20 minutes and then resume practicing.

We will be using Remind.com mobile text alerts to send real-time updates on pool closings, location updates and postponements/cancellations of swim meets due to weather. Subscribe to by texting @hhswim2023 to 81010

Please note, your phone plans text messaging rates will apply.

Q: Where is the best place to get up to the minute news about the Hurricanes?

A: This website is the best place to stay up-to-date.

Q: Is there a Parent Handbook?

A: No, but we do have a helpful Swim Team Intro section. All the information you need should be posted on this website. If you have questions, do not hesitate to contact one of our Board Members. You are also encouraged to attend our pre-season Parent Meeting at our Kickoff Party for additional information.
